The C That Behaves

A narrative-driven ad exploring code, music, and relief

What it is

A short narrative-driven ad for a MIDI keyboard, framed through a wordplay between C the programming language and C the musical chord. The film follows a stressed developer battling an uncooperative C program before stepping away from the screen and finding calm by playing a simple melody on a MIDI keyboard.

What problem it solves

Creative tools for music production are often marketed as complex, professional-only instruments. At the same time, programming culture normalizes stress and burnout as a badge of competence. This project challenges both ideas—positioning music not as another skill to master, but as an accessible outlet for relief, even (especially) for people in high-pressure technical work.

Core idea

In programming, C demands precision, experience, and discipline. In music, C is the easiest place to begin. The same letter—completely opposite expectations.

The project uses this contrast to suggest that music doesn't have to behave like code, and that you don't have to be a professional to start.

Approach & methods

  • Narrative tension built around failure and release
  • Visual contrast between rigid digital space and relaxed physical interaction
  • A deliberately simple musical performance to reinforce accessibility
  • Wordplay used structurally, not as a punchline
  • Ending line reframes the entire film in hindsight

Tools

  • Image generation: Nano Banana Pro
  • Video generation: Veo 3.1
  • Editing & pacing: CapCut
